TOUCHING STORY
I found this story today, and I think it's so inspiring that I really ought to share it with you readers. Especially as we're nearing Christmas time, when I believe that noble feelings surface and many people's souls are at their best. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!
Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.
The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in t

An old joke:
A fellow with a ticket to a concert at Carnegie Hall was visiting New York City for the first time. He was unsure of his directions, but soon saw an elderly gentleman who was carrying a violin case.
"That elderly gentleman must be a musician," he said to himself. "Surely he must know the way to Carnegie Hall."
So the fellow approached the elderly gentleman and asked, "Sir, how can I get to Carnegie Hall?"

FOLLOW THE PEGMAN
You may ask yourselves, What or who is a pegman? It looks rather like a clothes peg, the old-fashioned wooden kind of peg people used to attach their washing to the clothes line. But this pegman refers to a new application Google maps is setting up, available in only a few countries at the moment. It is called Street View, and it permits you to virtually sit on the street wherever you want in the world.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO LEARN ENGLISH?
The basic idea behind learning a language, any language, is to be able to communicate, to get an idea out of one person’s brain into the brain of another. As many people all over the world speak English, English is one of the most effective languages for moving ideas around. If you include all those who speak English as a second language, English is the most spoken language on Earth. In the past, this was true for Latin and Greek.
Wherever you go, English will be a requirement of some sort. It is used in tourism, business, education, literature, science, show business, etc. English could be considered as a passport to success in the

The ability to speak English well is one of the most important things that newcomers need to obtain employment. Those with strong English skills will become employable much faster than those who have only basic English skills. There are some jobs where English skills are not as important, but they tend to be jobs that will not pay a very high salary. Written English skills are also extremely important to many employers.
Improving your English skills can take as long as two or more years. You want to get started as quickly as possible and take every opportunity you can to speak English to others.

It has become socially expected that if one lives in a neighborhood with children one should purchase treats in preparation for trick-or-treaters. Learning English requires action. You may know all the learning tips, but if you don’t start doing things, you will achieve nothing. The fact is, if you want to learn to speak English well, you must change your life. Here are some examples of things you will have to do:
- read a book, article or other in English for half an hour if possible every day, analyzing the grammar in sentences and looking up words in an English dictionary.

THE HISTORY OF HOT AIR BALLOONING
On the 19th September 1783 Pilatre De Rozier, a scientist, launched the first hot air balloon called ’Aerostat Reveillon’. The passengers were a sheep, a duck and a rooster and the balloon stayed in the air for a grand total of 15 minutes before crashing back to the ground.
The first manned attempt came about 2 months later on 21st November, with a balloon made by 2 French brothers, Joseph and Etienne Montgolfier. The balloon was launched from the centre of Paris and flew for a period of 20 minutes. The birth of hot air ballooning!!!
Just 2 years later in 1785 a French balloonist, Jean Pierre Blanchard, and his American co pilot, John Jefferies, became the first to fly across the English Channel. In these early days of ballooning, the Engli

WEBCAMS TO THE WORLD
A web camera is a real-time camera, usually a video camera, whose images can be accessed using the internet. The first webcam was started in 1991 in the computer science department of Cambridge University. Today there are millions of webcams that provide views into offices, buildings, parks, streets, and can also give us panoramic views of cities and the countryside. Webcams are used to monitor traffic, to keep track of volcanic activity, to keep an eye on the weather conditions, and also to provide us with an inside view of places we may never have the opportunity to see personally. They can also be used for security reasons.
Here there are some links to webcams that may interest you.

I once won a newspaper competition with an easy dessert like this.
You'll need some plain ice cream (chocolate, vanilla, strawberrry, or a combination of any kind), some biscuits, which can be chocolate, vanilla, etc, and if you wish, chocolate for melting over it.
Soften the ice cream at room temperature for a while. Meanwhile, put some plastic wrap or aluminium foil into a long cake tin, leaving some of the foil or wrap hanging over the sides (to cover the dessert when the tin is full). Spoon some softened ice cream into the cake tin, then sprinkle some crushed biscuits on it. Afte

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING PUNCTUAL

Last Sunday 18th of March, there was a very interesting article in the Sunday supplement of the 'El Mercurio' of Valparaiso, about the cost of being unpunctual in Chile. According to this article, the economic cost of being late for 7 minutes every day in one whole year amounts to US $104,677,397. This sounds incredible. But it is based on a survey carried out in the year 2006 by the Libertad Institute in Santiago. The cost includes what the employer loses, the employee's cost, domestic service, armed forces, police force and that involved by labourers and workers. It ends

ST PATRICK'S DAY

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated March 17th. St. Patrick of Ireland, along with St. Nicholas and St. Valentine, is one of the world's most popular saints. English is not the most widely spoken language in the world in terms of the number of native speakers-there are more Chinese speakers than native English speakers-but Chinese is spoken little outside Chinese communities, so in reality English is the most widespread language in the world. Although it isn't easy to estimate the number of English speakers in the world, experts believe that there are more than 350,000,000 native English speakers and more than 400,000,000 speakers of English as a second language, people who use English as an everyday language, although they are not native speakers and those who use it as a second language, although not for everyday purposes.
Although less than 15% of the world's population uses English, its
